The sun was sinking low in the western sky when Taiit stirred. His head throbbed with an intense ferocity and the whole right side of his body felt as though it was on fire. Uttering an agonised groan, he curled onto his left side.
"Ah. You are finally awake."
Taiit's eyes snapped open and he swung his pounding head up to find a man standing a few paces from him, looking down kindly. Taiit began to grow defensive, before realising that he was not lying in the forest, next to the creek where he had been beaten near to death.
